After every major American storm, the government investigates itself. The National Weather Service writes a service assessment. NIST runs a technical investigation. FEMA publishes the mitigation studies. Those documents name, in plain language, what killed people and what would have saved them: and then they sit in PDF archives, read by almost no one they were written about.
The Warning Hour exists to read them out loud. Each episode takes one storm and tells the story the documents tell: what the warnings said, what people heard, what changed afterward. The Storm-Ready Home is the other half of the work: the findings turned into 130 numbered protections a household can actually do, every figure cited to the document it came from.
The method, in four rules
- 01. Primary documents only.
Service assessments, technical investigations, storm-event databases, the agencies' own directories. Never a retelling of a retelling.
- 02. Every figure carries its source.
If a number appears: a wind speed, a death toll, a dollar figure: the issuing document is named. In the book, the citation is printed next to the claim.
- 03. Say what it does not do.
Every protection in the book ends with its honest limits. A plan that oversells is worse than no plan.
- 04. Turn findings into work.
A finding is only useful once it becomes a Saturday's task with a cost, a time, and a checklist line. That translation is the whole product.
The honest lines, on the record: Paul Raymond is the authorial name this work is published under. No agency of the United States Government has endorsed, reviewed, or is affiliated with this book or channel. Everything factual in both is traceable to the public documents cited alongside it: check the sources; that is what they are printed for.
